Grade Level Objectives

Rationale: Computers are tools to enhance the learning process. Teachers integrate technology into all areas of the curriculum and classroom.  Therefore, students must develop basic competencies with digital technology in order to be successful learners.
COURSE GOALS: Students will become…
~ Capable information technology users
~ Problem solvers and decision makers
~ Creative and effective users of productivity tools
~ Communicators, collaborators, publishers, and producers
~ Informed, responsible and contributing digital citizens

 KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADERS develop skills and behaviors that will serve as a foundation for future learning. They will be able to identify the parts of a computer necessary to use a device as a learning tool. They will begin using computer applications for simple age-appropriate tasks and discuss the importance of media balance. They will understand and demonstrate proper etiquette, behavior, and body position when using computers. 

SECOND AND THIRD GRADERS will improve their keyboarding speed and accuracy. They will create, edit, and perform additional formatting functions using Google Drive. The work on varied assignments within Google Classroom. They discuss ethical computer use, while studying intellectual property and authorship issues. They continue to build on basic coding skills, including creating algorithms and debugging programs. 

FOURTH GRADERS  work cooperatively and independently. The classroom is student-driven and takes advantage of all digital tools available. Students in fourth grade will focus on using application tools to produce a product. They continue to master keyboarding, presentation software, and advanced research skills. Projects are closely tied to real-life examples as well as cross-curricular concepts.
